Goings On

I'm just going to start will saying how pleased I am that the weather is finally starting to warm up. I've been so tired of the dark cold winter that I was starting to go crazy. This past weekend saw the start of 50+ degree weather, which is wonderful. I was finally able to open up the house a little bit today and the fresh air is just amazing. I'm really honestly planning to start trying to go out for short walks soon (after the three days of rain we are to get pass at least). I found yesterday that my back is really unaccustomed to bearing the weight of my expanding belly, which looks as though I'm smuggling a basketball. Andrew is taking a class on building and painting minis for Warhammer 40k at a hobby shop at the mall, so I decided to take the opportunity to also get out of the house as well as pick up a couple things from Motherhood that I'd been needing. I was kind of surprised at how quickly I was experiencing so much back pain I absolutely had to find a place to sit. Thankfully there was a free table at the Starbucks where I spent some time before heading to books-a-million, where they also thankfully had reading chairs. I decided after that experience that I really did need to finally alter my mainly sedentary daily routine. If I don't build up my back strength at all I'm either going to be in a lot more pain or end up hurting myself or both. :-P

In other news I'm a very close to being finished with the baby blanket I've been crocheting. I just need to do the border, which I'll be doing in white (the body of the blanket is in light sage green). I've not done crochet in likely a decade and never anything as large or as nice as a blanket. This is also the first time I've worked with a printed pattern or used any pretty stitch variations, so I'm quite pleased with the results. I'll post a picture of the blanket once I'm finished with it. I'm also very close to being do with the cross stitch pattern I've been working on. It's something I started years ago. It's taken so long because I've never really worked on in consistently. It would sit untouched for six months at a time sometimes. There is a very little bit of stitching left to be done the the lower right hand corner, then all the outlining on the lower half needs to be done. It's a garden gate scene with lots of lilac in it. I plan to frame it and put it up in the living room once I complete it as it will go nicely with all the light purple I put out in the spring and summer time.

No More Excuses.

I keep telling myself that I am going to start actually posting things on my blog, but would keep putting it off. My most common excuse was that I didn't have anything to talk about, which really isn't true. I'm sure I can find things to write about. Whether or not people find them interesting isn't all that important I suppose. I generally plan to posting updates on my pregnancy, progress on my craft projects (such as sewing, cross stitch, and crochet), as well as history related tidbits ranging from historic housekeeping and Civil War reenacting, to anything I find interesting. I also would like to do more interesting cooking and baking, and hopefully the prospect of posting about it will inspire me to actually do it.

I suppose a bit of an introduction would be in order for my first post. I'm a young stay-at-home expectant mother. I have an amazing husband who is truly my best friend. In May we will celebrate our first anniversary. Then in mid June we are expecting our first child, a daughter. We are both terribly excited. My husband and I are both geeks in our own rite. He, with his masters in Computer Science, is more the traditional computers, video games, roll playing geek. I on the other hand, with my bachelors in Anthropology, am more of the history, Tolkien, costuming, Civil War reenacting type geek, but we both enjoy and dabble in the other's preferred fields. We have two cats, Lily and Smittens. They are both American Shorthairs. They are sisters. Lily is pure slate gray, and Smittens, is a gray and fawn tortoise shell. In mid June we are expecting our first child, a daughter. We are both terribly excited.

Our true core, however, is our faith and families, which are both really important to us. We are both conservative Roman Catholics who come from faith-filled families. We are both very close to our families and are fortunate that we are able to live within comfortable driving distance to both sides. With our first child on the way, we look forward to have a strong Catholic family of our own to add to the wealth of support and love of our extended relations. Both of us were homeschooled for at least part of our academic experience, and it is something we very strong believe in and plan to provide for our own children. It will be a while though, before we've any children old enough to start schooling, though. And I think that's about it as far as introductions go. Hopefully now that I've actually done the first post I'll start really using this blog. :-)
